A big congratulations goes out to Esri employee, Andrew King, for being selected as the first GEOGRAPHICAL SCIENCES MS GIS AND MS GEOINT QUALIFIED TUITION SCHOLARSHIP winner!  This scholarship was created as part of the new collaboration between Esri and our Master of Science program. It will be awarded to one, qualified Esri employee each year who has been admitted to the MS program.

Andrew is a Solution Engineer Team Lead for Defense at Esri.  He currently manages a team of nine Solution Engineers who design, build, and implement solutions for Defense sector customers.  This work requires them to think creatively, consider customer environments, maintain high technical proficiency, present at conferences, and to help customers through the entire sales process.  They are regularly challenged to work in tough disconnected environments or behind strict firewalls.  The work ranges from supporting traditional warfighter support to at home mission sets such as military installation management.  Andrew's specialty is working with asset management, facilities management, and emergency response.  He has been with Esri for over four years and has focused on geospatial solutions for the military for over a decade with a long history working with the Air Force and Army.

On why he choose our MS program:

I chose the UMD program for both the staff and the students.  I knew that the local DC area would attract a lot of Defense and Intelligence focused students, so I knew I could learn a lot from the students and relate to their everyday problems.  The professors at UMD are also very impressive with a diverse set of backgrounds such as image analysis and programming which are fields that I wanted to advance my skill set.  GIS has come a long way since I obtained my undergraduate degree in Geography in 2010, so stepping back into academia is exciting.  I couldn't be more excited to work through the program the next few years.

Congratulations, Andrew!  Welcome to the program. We are looking forward to what you will accomplish!
