The Defence Geospatial Intelligence (DGI) Conference, a premier international event for military and government professionals in geospatial intelligence (GEOINT), took place from February 10 to 12, 2025. Dr. Ruibo Han, Director of the MS GEOINT program at CGIS, attended this year’s event, which brought together global leaders to discuss the latest advancements and future directions in the field.
As the largest annual gathering dedicated to geospatial intelligence and national security, DGI 2025 attracted over 700 senior defense and security executives from 46 countries. Key participants included representatives from the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD), the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA), the U.S. Army, NATO, the Australian Department of Defence, and the Council of the European Union. The event provided a significant platform for networking, particularly with agencies from NATO and African nations.
Discussions at the conference covered a range of pressing topics, including geospatial AI, remote sensing, and GIS technologies. One of the key focuses this year was the evolving landscape of space-based ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance)—a theme that sparked extensive dialogue in keynote sessions and workshops. Experts examined the opportunities and challenges presented by this rapidly changing domain, highlighting its critical role in defense and security operations.
Dr. Han’s participation fosters our interest in global collaborations, and contributes to the advancement of geospatial intelligence in defense and beyond.
