Dr. Micah Brachman was awarded a Teaching Innovation Grant for his proposal “Virtual Reality Geography Field Trips for Geography 170: Mapping our Digital World”. Google has developed a suite of virtual reality (VR) tools that enable students to virtually visit nearly any place on earth, but these technologies have not yet been used for any courses taught in the Department of Geographical Sciences. Micah will be leading a summer project to create several virtual reality field trips using Google Tours, Google Cardboard, and Google Earth VR. These virtual field trips will give Geography 170 students access to online experiential learning content that is specifically designed to enhance student learning by complementing the lectures, assignments, quizzes, and tests currently used in the course.
