SMAART Seminar Series Speaker, Werner Kuhn, UCSB

CGIS Hero Image

Dr. Werner Kuhn will give an invited talk titled, "Granularity as a Core Concept of Spatial Information". He is a Professor in the Department of Geography at University of California, Santa Barbara. He also serves as the Director for the Center for Spatial studies.

Event Date and Time: Tuesday, March 2, 2020 - 3:30 - 4:30 pm

Location: Zoom Webinar

Abstract

In this talk, I will present a view of multiscale analytics through the lenses of my core concepts of spatial information. These seven concepts organize spatial questions by information content (fields, objects, networks, events) and information quality (granularity, accuracy, provenance). Multiscale analyses pose questions centering on the concept of granularity, which is arguably the quintessential idea underlying all spatial thinking and computing.
