I am an assistant professor in the iSchool at University of Maryland. Before that, I spent five wonderful years at Telefonica Research, striving to analyze ways in which mobile digital traces can help to understand human behaviors and promote social development in areas like Smart Cities, Public Health or Education. I obtained my PhD and MSc in Computer Science from Columbia University and enjoyed internships at Google, One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). I am a recipient of La Caixa Fellowship. I have extensive experience in international development having worked on pilot studies in Bolivia and Peru. In my free time, I enjoy running and travelling to places with no Internet.
The Columbia Engineering Magazine interviewed me recently about my work in big data.
