Master of Professional Studies in Geospatial Intelligence
The Center for Geospatial Information Science (CGIS) at the University of Maryland is pleased to present the Master of Professional Studies in Geospatial Intelligence (MPS GEOINT). The MPS GEOINT program provides workforce-focused technical training that gives graduates the skills and expertise to lead new initiatives in the rapidly shifting landscape of GEOINT applications, data collection systems, analytic methods, and mission support.
The MPS GEOINT program encompasses a 30-credit (10 units of 3-credit courses) course structure comprised of five core courses and five elective courses that can be taken on a flexible schedule. The MPS GEOINT degree can be completed in as little as 15 months for full-time registrants.
The CIGS is also offering a Graduate (Post-Baccalaureate) Certificate in Professional Studies in Geospatial Intelligence (GCPS GEOINT) that entails 12 credits based on four courses. The credits earned from a GCPS GEOINT can be transferred towards the MPS GEOINT.
Either program may be taken on a full-time or part-time basis, and may be taken fully online or on-site (The Capstone course does require every MPS student to travel to campus to present project results). Courses are offered during evenings and are scheduled in 12-week quarter terms.
Courses offered in GEOINT programs are also available for non-degree seeking students. For more information on how to register as non-degree seeking students, please visit non-degree-admissions. Non-degree seeking students may transfer a maximum of nine (9) credits to an MPS or Graduate Certificate program, contingent on admission to the degree or certificate program and on the approval of the faculty in the program.
The application deadline for admission in Spring 2018 is February 16. We are also accepting applications for Fall 2018 (Deadline: July 26, 2018).
Please note that we are currently unable to accept international applications.
The Center for Geospatial Information Science (CGIS) recently became an Academic Partner of the United States Geospatial Intelligence Foundation (USGIF). The USGIF is a worldwide leader in promoting the geospatial intelligence tradecraft across the defense, intelligence, and academic communities. This partnership will empower the CGIS to play an integral role in advancing the GEOINT tradecraft through interaction with GEOINT community leaders and development of new teaching and research collaborations. The students in our GEOINT program will benefit from this partnership through expanded access to cutting-edge technologies and tradecraft best practices as well as new opportunities to build a diverse professional network.
GCPS GEOINT is also applying to become an accreditated program by USGIF. Once granted, GCPS GEOINT graduates will receive an accreditated certificate from USGIF.
Please stay tuned to our twitter account (@GISUMD) and website for online and on-site information sessions for our GEOINT programs. The most recent information session was held on Nov 20th.
